Comics Homies
Her Dykes to Watch Out For is the queen, nay drag king, of queer comic strips. Her graphic novel Fun Home is taking America by storm. Freakin’ go get it already!
The founding editor of the groundbreaking Gay Comix, creator of Wendel, and creator of the graphic novel Stuck Rubber Baby, Howie is the godfather of us all.
Jen is more than the creator of the comic strip SubGurlz; more than the editor of the excellent Juicy Mother. She’s the hub of our far-flung network of queer cartoonists; the driving force behind the panels, art shows, anthologies, and women’s Turkish oil wrestling evenings that keep us together.
After finally getting the rights to it back, Ivan is re-releasing editions of his classic comic series Tales of the Closet. He’s also written for Marvel, DC, and the late great Milestone Media, where he wrote Blood Syndicate and Static. He also took me to my first Hong Kong movie, The God of Cooking, which I have never forgotten.
Paige has drawn and syndicated 24 issues of her groovy, funny comic Jane’s World despite an even more demanding day job than mine. She scored a 2006 Eisner Award nomination for Best Humor Writer-Artist.
Rob’s great strip Curbside is my roommate over at Lavendermagazine.com. He’s also the editor of the superb anthologies Strange-Looking Exile and Boy Trouble.
Diane’s graphic novel with Daphne Gottlieb, Jokes and the Unconscious, is available from Cleis Press. She is, of course, also the creator of Hothead Paisan, homicidal lesbian terrorist extraordinaire.
His excellent strip The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green kept me sane when I was single. It’s now a movie.
Creator of Black Gay Boy Fantasy, a minicomic about black G/L life in Washington DC. It’s beautifully loose, emotionally expressive, funny and stylish.
News & Commentary
Read her final column, then go out and raise hell just like she asked you to.
Loved her back when she was the only one showing up for work while sharing a crappy timeslot with Lizz Winstead and Chuck D on Air America.
The commentator people love to hate because she’s funny, smart, talks dirty like the boys, and is a girl.

The ever-growing state-by-state legislative battle over gay marriage is no less than a historic referendum on basic civil and constitutional rights. Nobody knows that better or works harder in this fight than these guys.
